2009 was a tale of two very different years.
In the ATP, it started out with one player as clearly a dominant force and ended in a haze. In the WTA, there was genuine unrest at the top. Only one spoke loudly enough in the big four tournaments to be heard and she ended the year more or less where her performance says she should be. Still, the year was a tale of two years.
I’m glad it’s over.

Without a doubt, the line with the worst tennis fashion this year has been adidas.
Many believe that “adidas” is an acronym for “All Day I Dream About Sport.” Untrue. That may be the case now, but it was originally a portmanteau word formed from one of its founders’ names: Adolf Dassler. “Adi” was a nickname and as for “Das”… do the math. The acronym came along later. They started out with shoes and Lord knows that’s where they should’ve stayed.
2009 was a fashion disaster year for adidas; even the SHOES were a hot mess. If Adolf and his brother Rudolf could see what their company has become now, they’d be turning in their graves. Continue reading »
