Been a while…
Roland Garros has come to a close. There were surprises and oddities among the regular. I must say that I’m quite pleased with the way the second major of the year concluded. Never have I seen the winners of the singles titles so exuberant and ecstatic at winning the title. It was beautiful to see and you’d be lying if you did not feel some semblance of warmth in your soul for seeing the winners of Roland Garros.
Let’s revisit some of the highlights of the year’s second major.

I know I haven’t updated in… forever. Sorry about that. I’ve been lacking inspiration as of late. But, I found some in the least likely of places: Indian Wells.
Indian Wells yielded some surprises, as it usually does. It is my least favorite of all the Masters 1000 tournaments. It has awkward scheduling since I’m on the east coast of the US, three hours ahead. That means their night matches are usually around when I get tired. But, being the tennis nut I am, I suffer the tireless nights. After all, if I can do the 16-hour difference that Melbourne offers, I can do the 3-hour difference that California gives me.
Back on topic, Jelena Jankovic (and her lime green dress) was not that big of surprise for the winner on the women’s side. Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik weren’t that big of surprise. They’re good doubles players as well as decent singles players. The men’s side is where you scratch your head and go “WTH happened?”

2009 was a tale of two very different years.
In the ATP, it started out with one player as clearly a dominant force and ended in a haze. In the WTA, there was genuine unrest at the top. Only one spoke loudly enough in the big four tournaments to be heard and she ended the year more or less where her performance says she should be. Still, the year was a tale of two years.
I’m glad it’s over.

Well, Rafa has been eliminated courtesy of Kolya 6-1 7-6 (4).
It was looking quite promising for a moment there, but no. Rafa had to go and get my hopes of taking it to a third set up and have them ripped from my insides in the most horrible way possible. It’s all good, though. Aside from looking like he’d rather be anywhere else other than on the court, at least the crowd was cheering heavily for him. That’s gotta make you feel good no matter how bad you’re losing. They really love him in London.
Still, I would have preferred it if he’d at least won a set…
Nole’s next on Friday in what is essentially a dead rubber.

Rafa…
… you let me down. Again.
I didn’t care if you lost every match at the WTF. I only needed you to win one; ONE measly little match. I just needed you to beat Amphibian. All I needed you to do was beat Toad, not lose to him 6-4 6-4. That’s not cool, Rafa. So uncool. I would appreciate it if you would win at least ONE match, though. Just one. That’s all.
